On June 14, EU Battery and Waste Battery Law passed – which requires producers of electric vehicle batteries and rechargeable industrial batteries to calculate carbon footprints during production cycle – which bans sale of products not meeting carbon footprint related standards in EU market. This will have a big effect on China’s batteries and relevant chemicals exported to the EU, according to insiders. China’s power battery industry has developed rapidly in recent years, and achieved first mover advantages in core technologies, industry scale, cost prices, etc. However, domestic enterprises have to improve low-carbon competitiveness, given the world's goal of carbon neutrality, growing attention to carbon footprints of power batteries.
