The outbreak of the novel coronavirus COVID-19 has made epidemic disease control a task of top priority in China. To help fight the epidemic, German specialty chemicals company LANXESS announced the donation of 1 ton of its highly effective Rely+On Virkon disinfectant to hospitals in Wuhan and two surrounding cities. The donation of the high level disinfectant product arrived in Hubei on February 16 thanks to the optimization of production capacities at the production plant in the U.K. and a concerted effort of employees around the world to help quickly. One ton of Rely+On Virkon can be diluted into 100 000 liters of disinfectant solution for use at a ratio of 1:100.

“The novel coronavirus pneumonia is receiving high attention from not only the Chinese but also the people at LANXESS worldwide. At the critical moment of epidemic control, LANXESS commits to fully use its strengths and make meaningful contributions. We believe that China will surely defeat the epidemic through the efforts of various sides,” Ming Cheng Chien, President Asia-Pacific Region said.

Developing practical disinfection and protection habits are effective measures against the epidemic. Rely+On Virkon was widely used during the SARS and MERS outbreaks in Saudi Arabia and South Korea, and assisted in the outbreak of the Norovirus in South Korea during the Olympic games. SARS and MERS share similarities and belong to the same virus family as the novel coronavirus COVID-19.Rely+On Virkon has achieved complete inactivation of a surrogate Human Coronavirus strain at a 1:100 dilution rate with a 10 minute contact time.
