— CM Water Looks Back Cooperation with LANXESS in the Past Ten Years

By Joyce Pan

No matter if it’s the wild deserts of Xinjiang or being surrounded by mud and rocks– CM Water values LANXESS for its dedication to walk the extra mile in order to solve problems where it matters most. No obstacles and rough roads can stop LANXESS in delivering immediate first-hand support.
“LANXESS went to Xinjiang Huadian Kashi power plant and even the furthest boarder areas to help us solve oversized pressure gap of condensation water system, while others hesitate to come”, Mr. Yunfan Dai, General Manager of CM water, a leading engineering company specializing in  water and waste water treatment of power industry, recalls a recent collaboration.
2015 marks the tenth anniversary of cooperation. CM water looks back on 10 years of cooperation and many jointly solved adventures.

Customized solutions in line with local market needs

Working together for so many years proofed to be beneficial for both CM Water and LANXESS.
“One of our key success factors is the adaptation to local needs and standards to provide the most feasible and effective solutions for its Chinese partners”, says Dr. Rita Dicke, Vice President of business unit Liquid Purification Technologies APAC at LANXESS.
Featuring 75 years of practical experience with water treatment, LANXESS offers ion exchange resins with its premium products of Lewatit? to serve Chinese power industry. Lewatit? is essential for the demineralization of the condensation and make-up water and for condensate polishing in the water-steam circuits.
Chinese power plants require ion exchange resins with a stronger strength to adapt to high speed beds of power plant unit. LANXESS volunteered to adjust its production line and optimized production processes at its site in Leverkusen in 2009. LANXESS conducted more than 15 times testing and joint verification with CM Water to ensure the compatibility of its products with a local test method, which differed from EU requirements. According to CM water, working closely with a well-known global supplier not only serves as a key factor in convincing potential business partners, but also enables the company to rely on enhanced R&D efforts and global technical service.
With LANXESS’ support, CM water grew rapidly in the last ten years from a small-sized company to a publicly traded major player in the Chinese water industry.

Continuous R&D to provide a wide range of high-quality solutions

At CM water, LANXESS is well-known for its devotion to continuously improving and expanding its product lines. In recent years, LANXESS was able to expand its product portfolio and to introduce a wide range of new resins in response to special needs and requests of the local market.
Having a strong set of technological solutions available, increases the flexibility of LANXESS and its clients in responding to specific conditions and thus enhances the efficiency of new water processing facilities. “LANXESS develops products based on customers’ needs and adapts to market requirements. It is no surprise that they are doing well in the market”, acknowledges Ms. Yuan Yang, Board Chairman of CM water.
Indeed, this approach has paved way towards a leading engineering company for CM Water in the local market so far. Ion exchange resins and solutions from CM Water and LANXESS are serving more than 180 thermal power plants, 3 nuclear power plants and Three Gorges Hydropower Station in China.

One-stop-shop supplier for water treatment

In 2012, LANXESS launched reverse osmosis membrane elements under the flagship brand Lewabrane?. Using Lewatit? and Lewabrane? at the same time could meet the requirements for high quality water used in power plants, semi-conductor industry, pharmaceutical and drinking water. In addition, the combination of reverse osmosis and ion exchange ensures that efficiency and cost performance go hand in hand in industrial applications.
LANXESS and Jiamei believe that supplying both resins and membranes can provide an advantage in future – especially for desalination water facilities.
“Companies which are convinced of LANXESS’ resin quality might also start to consider the brand’s membranes and vice versa. There are still untapped synergies in this area”, says Mr. Dai.

Serving clients around
the globe

By having a presence and in-depth experience in all key regions, LANXESS helps its clients to facilitate projects abroad faster and in a more efficient manner. Naturally, the relationship between LANXESS and CM water also has proven its strength beyond the Chinese boarders when LANXESS supported CM water in implementing resins in a series of projects in India, Vietnam and Pakistan. But cooperation is not limited to business.
LANXESS helped CM water to facilitate the participation in an exhibition in Mumbai to highlight its solutions for the local water industry. This is a good example showing how LANXESS can help customers not only with project-related issues, but also with cultural adaptation and localization. LANXESS encourages its Chinese partners to utilize LANXESS’ whole global network, including supply chain, technical service, cultural understanding and local project know-how.
“At LANXESS, we truly believes that development strategies such as ‘One Belt and One Road’ will provide an increasing amount of local partners with opportunities to do business abroad – and LANXESS is ready to support them in this strategic move,” commented Dicke.

A joint future

In April 2015, the Chinese government launched the “Water Pollution Prevention & Control Action Plan” (also known as “Water Ten”). It is the most comprehensive water policy in China to date. Clear targets were set to enhance the protection of drinking water sources and the provision of urban environments with safe drinking water. Tackling the long-lasting problem of water pollution and water safety creates new opportunities, but also challenges, for the local water industry. LANXESS and CM water seek to play a crucial part in improving the supply of safe and clean water in China’s urban areas. Both companies will intensify their technological cooperation in order to support China’s effort to improve its drinking water supply.
LANXESS and CM water can look back on a successful past, but it is even more important to embrace the challenges and opportunities ahead. LANXESS’ rich experience, exceptional after-sale service, professional and dedicated employees and the proven track record as a reliable business partner will serve as a sound basis for future growth.
