China Boosts Environment Investment    

China spent RMB449.3 billion on pollution reduction and solid waste treatment in 2008, up 32.6% year-on-year, which accounted for 1.49% of the nation's GDP in 2008, the proportion raised 0.13 percentage point from the previous year, according to China Environment Investment Report for 2008 released by the Ministry of Environmental Protection this January.
    The nation plans to invest RMB1.53 trillion in environment protection issues from 2006 to 2010. And as of the end of 2008, the country has put RMB1.04 trillion in this field, indicating it has no problem to reach the target set in the period 2006 to 2010.
   Ten industries regarded as more pollutant discharge including petrochemical industry spent RMB39.66 billion in pollution reduction and solid waster treatment in 2008, up 28.6% year-on-year.
   For 2010, the nation plans to add waste water treatment capacity of 45 million tons per day and urban life rubbish treatment capacity of 240 000 tons per day.
   In addition, China will double the environment investment in the 12th Five-Year Program period (2011-2015) under the base during 2006 - 2010, to RMB3.1 trillion.
