 Fuel Price Raised in Beijing

The Beijing municipal authorities raise prices of cleaner fuels by RMB200 per ton for gasoline 93# and RMB290 per tons for diesel, effective October 7th, 2008.
Gasoline 93#, the most commonly used, is sold at RMB6.37 per liter in Beijing, up RMB0.17.
The revisions are to compensate the refineries producing cleaner but more expensive Euro-IV standard fuels. In addition, the measure also aims to boost public transport and limit the number of new vehicles in Beijing.
The Beijing government has announced post-Olympics car limitations trial from October 2008 to April 2009 to reduce traffic jam and pollution.
