China Boosts Services in Yangtze River Delta       

China boosts opening and economic growth in the Yangtze River Delta area, a major economic engine in eastern China.
   According to a document released by the State Council, the government has set a target to make the service sector an important part in the area by 2020, with a global leading innovation ability, rational distribution, low production cost and harmonious biological environment.
   In the area, China will focus on the development and innovation of electronic/information, biology, advanced materials, new energies and aviation/aerospace industries, and further expand major sectors including petrochemicals, iron/steel, automobiles, ships and machines.
   The government will continue making efforts to improve the management system for foreign issues in this area, and pay more attention to using efficiently foreign capital, importing advanced technologies, management experiences and talents, and encourage cooperation between domestic enterprises and foreign firms.
   The strategy is to deal with rising costs of labor and environment, together with the appreciation of RMB with respect to US dollar, which are causing a major industrial shift. Some manufacturers are moving out of this area to make ends meet.
   With a population totaling 120 million and advantageous geographical position, the Yangtze River Delta area is home to Shanghai, Zhejiang province and Jiangsu province. The two provinces are also noted in China for their export-oriented industries.
