FDI up 20% in August      

The Ministry of Commerce of China said on September 10th that the country attracted US$67.73 billion of foreign direct investment (FDI) in the first eight months of 2008, up 41.6% year-on-year. FDI in August alone was US$7.01 billion, up 20.384% year-on-year.
    But the number of newly established foreign firms dropped by 24.35%, being 18 797 in the first eight months of 2008. The drop in August alone was 39.5%, with the newly established foreign firm number of 1 906.
    Analysts warned some speculative capital has still entered China disguised as investment funds that has not changed facing China's slowdown economy.
