China Strengthens Biological Industrial Development     

To strengthen the research on the biological sector, grasp the trend of the biological sector, make policy scientific and promote the development of the biological sector in China, the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) has founded the National Expert Consulting Council for Biological Sector.
    The new organization is a strategic consulting agency serving the biological sector in China. Its main duties include: survey and research on industrial distribution, planning, policy, technical innovation and major achievement commercializing according to the needs in the national economy and the social development in combination with the development trend of life science, biological technology and biological sector both at home and abroad; certification to significant projects in the biological sector; analysis on the basic situation in  the biological sector in China and proposing suggestions on major policy and measures.
    The first Council is composed of 23 experts in biological technology, economics, enterprises and related fields. The tenure of office is three years.
    "China's economic development is faced with huge pressures from population, resources and environment," said Zhang Xiaoqiang, Deputy Director of NDRC, "China is in urgent need to develop the biological sector and raise the ability of independent innovation. The founding of council is one of the measures in implementing the Eleventh Five-year Program for the Biological Sector."
