China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC) is an integrated energy chemical corporation with businesses covering oil and gas operations, oilfield services, engineering/construction, and manufacturing and supply of petroleum and petrochemical products. Established by CNPC in 1999, PetroChina Company Limited (PetroChina) is one of the largest listed oil companies worldwide and also the most profitable listed companies in Asia. It covers major assets and businesses of CNPC, and is engaged in a broad range of activities related to oil prospecting and production, refining and sales, chemical production and sales, natural gas production and pipeline transmission. PetroChina is the largest crude oil and natural gas producer, one of the largest oil product producers and sellers and also one of the major chemical product producers and sellers in China.
    January 3rd, 2006: PetroChina (HK: 0857) and Jilin Chemical (HK: 0368) jointly announced that the H-share shareholders meeting held by Jilin Chemical in December 2005 passed the special resolution of revoking its H-share position in Hong Kong Stock Exchange and its domiciled-share position in New York Exchange.
    February 28th, 2006: PetroChina started to construct the 800 000 t/a ethylene integrated project in Chengdu, Sichuan province of southwestern China.
    February 28th, 2006: PetroChina and Shougang Group signed a long-term strategic cooperation agreement in Beijing. PetroChina will ensure the supply of oil and gas for the production, living and others to Shougang, and Shougang Group will help PetroChina to promote the retail sale of oil products in Beijing and Hebei province.
    March 2nd, 2006: PetroChina Company Ltd. and Total of France signed a natural gas development and production contract, and a memorandum of understanding of natural gas sale and purchase agreement of South Sulige Block, seated in Erdos, Inner Mongolia.
    April 17th, 2006: CNPC purchased the Manokwari Block located in Papua of Indonesia from PT Waropen Perkasa.
    June 28th, 2006: CNPC Xinjiang Dushanzi Petrochemical Co., Ltd. started construction on the 1 million t/a ethylene project in Xinjiang.
    July 5th, 2006: China National Petroleum Corporation International (CNPCI), CNPC's subsidiary, signed the transfer agreement with KazMunaiGaz on construction and operation for the Second Phase of China - Kazakhstan Oil Pipeline.
    July 7th, 2006: CNPC (Hong Kong) Limited (0135.HK) entered into a letter of intent to enter into a Farm Out Agreement and a Joint Operating Agreement with Continental Energy Corporation (OTCBB: CPPXF) and GeoPetro Resources Company (TSX: GEP.S), for acquiring 70% equity of Continental-GeoPetro (Bengara II) Ltd. (CGB2) from the two firms, and joint development of the oil and gas assets in Bengara-II Block production sharing contract area in Indonesia.
    August 23rd, 2006: PetroChina announced that it will purchase 67% of interests in PetroKazakhstan (PK) from its parent company CNPC, through CNPC Explore & Development Co., Ltd., for a consideration of approximately US$2.735 billion.
    August 24th, 2006: CNPC signed oil cooperation agreements with Petroleos de Venezuela SA (PDVSA).
    September 1st, 2006: CNPC acquired stakes in two oil and gas projects in Uzbekistan.
    October 16th, 2006: CNPC and Rosneft of Russia signed an agreement on setting up a join venture Vostok Energy Company Ltd.
    November 15th, 2006: Mr. Chen Geng, president of CNPC and Chairman of the Board of Directors of PetroChina, resigned his position. While Jiang Jiemin, president of PetroChina Ltd., was then named the president of CNPC.
    November 16th, 2006: China Huanqiu Contracting & Engineering Corporation (HQCEC), a subsidiary of CNPC signed an EPC Contract for a Coal-based Fertilizer Complex Project with Vietnam National Chemical Corporation (VINACHEM).
    December 27th, 2006: PetroChina announced that it has signed an agreement with Hong Kong PYI Corporation Limited (0498.HK), on managing, building and transferring a LNG facility on a man-made island at Yangkou Port.
    December 2006: PetroChina Company Limited affiliated with CNPC signed an agreement with Iran on supplying 3 million tons of LNG per year to PetroChina for 25 years, starting from 2011.
    December 30th, 2006: PetroChina broke ground for a new refining project with a capacity of 10 million tons per year in Qinzhou city, Guangxi of southwest China.
    January 11th, 2007: PetroChina signed a Framework Agreement with the State Forestry Administration on the development of forest bio-fuel.
    February 26th, 2007: CNPC and Statoil of Norway signed the Memorandum of Understanding on Strategic Cooperation in order to develop the South Pars offshore gas field in Iran.
    March 4th, 2007: CNPC and Shandong Provincial Government signed a protocol on cooperative development of bioenergy.
    April 5th, 2007: CNPC appointed Mr. Liao Yongyuan the Vice President and Mr. Wang Guoliang CNPC's Chief Financial Officer. Liao Yongyuan was CNPC's Assistant President and PetroChina's Senior Vice President, and Wang Guoliang was PetroChina's Chief Financial Officer.
    April 5th, 2007: The SORALCHIN Oil Refinery, jointly-funded by CNPC and the Ministry of Energy and Mines of Algeria, was put into operation in Algeria.
    June 16th, 2007: CNPC signed a strategic cooperation agreement with the Chongqing municipal government.
    July 7th, 2007: PetroChina signed an agreement on collaborative development of CBM with Shanxi Energy Industries Group Limited.
    July 21st, 2007: CNPC and Heilongjiang provincial government signed a cooperative strategy framework agreement.
    July 23rd, 2007: CNPC Urumqi Petrochemical Co., Ltd. and the Sixth Agricultural Division of Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps (SAD) held a ceremony for a strategic cooperation that CNPC Urumqi Petrochemical will offer services of management, technology, construction and repair for SAD's facilities.
   August 29th, 2007: CNPC and Turkmenistan held the commencement ceremony for the joint natural gas exploration and development project in the site of the Amu Darya Right Bank Gasfield.
    September 6th, 2007: CNPC signed a liquefied natural gas (LNG) key terms agreement with Woodside Energy Ltd (Woodside).
   September 8th, 2007: CNPC and LUKOIL signed a Strategic Partnership Agreement on oil/gas businesses.
    September 20th, 2007: CNPC and the Ministry of Petroleum of Chad signed an agreement for the establishment of a joint venture refinery company.
    September 26th, 2007: CNPC launched a LNG project in Dagushan Peninsula of Dalian, Liaoning province.
    October 20th, 2007: CNPC signed a cooperative framework agreement with Zhuhai Municipal Government in Beijing to cooperate in refining, sales and natural gas businesses.   
    October 28th, 2007: CNPC signed an agreement with Nanyang Municipal and Henan Tianguan Group Co., Ltd. (fuel alcohol manufacturer), to acquire a 55% stake in Tianguan Group.
