SSPC Shuts up KP Workshop

Southwest Synthetic Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. (SSPC, SZ: 000788)
recently announced the investigation result of the occupational
disease harmful accident. The health department decided to
impose an administrative fine of RMB150 000 and submit the
Chongqing Municipal Government to close the KP (ketoprofen)
workshop in SSPC.
   On November 14th, 2007 it is reported that 4 workers died of
lung cancer in the KP workshop of the SSPC Second Plant. Ministry
of Health asked some relevant departments and organizations to
investigate the accident. On March 9th, 2007 Ministry of Health
issued the “Announcement of the Investigation Result of the
Occupational Disease Harmful Accident of SSPC” and made the
punishment of closing the KP workshop, since there are many
occupational disease harmful factors and serious problems
including hydrogen sulfide and trichloromethane surpassing the
national standards.
   Nowadays, SSPC has suspended the production in KP workshop
with the commitment that the production will not be resumed until
the occupational disease harmful problems are well solved.
    SSPC also suggests that it will make more efforts on other
products’ sales to remedy the effects of production suspension.
Experts of Chongqing Municipal Health Bureau have launched the
prevention education against the occupational diseases. The
company is formulating effective measures in accordance with
relevant requirement to vigorously protect the safety and health
of the staff.
    Main themes submitted in China’s NPC (National People’s
Congress) and CPPCC (Chinese People’s Political Consultative
Conference), which was just closed in Beijing is to protect the
environment and promote health and concern. Therefore, this
accident in SSPC happens to hit the crucial point.
