Warm-Water Molding Medical Fixing Material

The project for the research of warm-water molding medical
fixing material undertaken by Changchun Institute of Applied
Chemistry CAS has passed the experts’ appraisal organized by
Jilin provincial Science & Technology Department. The new
medical external fixing material has shape remembrance function.
It can have plasticity in warm water at a temperature of 55-70
℃. It has great safety, convenient use, cleanness, no toxicity
and no side effect. The material can have repeated uses and
replace plaster.
   Changchun Institute of Applied Chemistry CAS has removed
technical bottlenecks in monomer synthesis and fatty polyester
polymerization and successfully produced warm-water molding
medical fixing material. The use of porous plates or porous
reticular materials made of the material in bone injury external
fixing has excellent gas permeation and water resistance. No
breakage or damage will happen in the operation. Products have
good toughness, strong x-ray penetrating power, small bulk
density of 0.9-1.2 g/cm3, low consumption and small thickness
of 1-3mm. They become soft with heating in warm water and the
operation made by doctors is therefore very convenient. As the
material has shape remembrance function, the original shape of
products can be restored after re-heating to the plasticity
temperature. Products can be put in closed storage for long
periods and scraps can be fully biodegradable with no pollution
to environment.
