Nanjing Titanium Dioxide Chemical Stops Production for
Pollution
　　On August 31st, 2006, Nanjing Construction Committee and
nearly 10 local departments held a news press conference and
released that on August 30th, 2006 Nanjing Titanium Dioxide
Chemical Co., Ltd. (NTDCC) stopped production for pollution to
ex-Qinghuai River. According to an official from Nanjing
Environmental Protection Administration (NEPA), NTDCC has been
compelled to stop production for rectifying. Once NTDCC hands
in standardized emission plans and emergency measures, it will
be able to recover production gradually after the demonstration
of NEPA. Besides, the environmental protection department will
trace the emission situation of waste water for the whole day.
One principal of Nanjing Economic Commission said that the
titanium dioxide plant has been relocated today and is forced
to finish relocating before December 31st, 2007. It is released
that although NTDCC has put large amount of money for buying
facilities to improve waste water treatment ability, emission
still can’t meet the standard due to the obsolete pipeline
networks.

Explosion in Anhui Longsheng Chemical
　　On August 28th, 2006, an explosion broke out in Longsheng
Chemical Co., Ltd. located in Luqiao town of Dingyuan county,
Anhui province. The accident caused 2 deaths and 1 serious injury.
According to the investigation, the spark, caused by the
grinding wheel during the rust-removal process, lit the
flammable gas to explode.
   The company mainly manufactures fertilizers and has
suspended operation for overhaul.

Explosion in Jianghuai Chemical Fertilizer Plant
　　On August 29th, 2006, an explosion happened in the
butyrolactone workshop of the fine chemical department of
Jianghuai Chemical Fertilizer Plant in Hefei, Anhui province.
Causing 13 injuries, the accident cause has proved to be the
defect existing in the butyrolactone 1# unit and no warning units
for flammable gas in the workshop, resulting in leakage of
hydrogen.

Fire in Nanjing Tianxi Fine Chemical
　　On August 26th, 2006, a big fire broke out in Nanjing Tianxi
Fine Chemical Co., Ltd. in Nanjing, Jiangsu province. It is
released by the company no one injured in the accident.

Fire in Wuhan Jianmin Pharmaceutical
　　On August 21st, 2006, a fire broke out on a cooling tower
in Wuhan Jianmin Pharmaceutical Plant located in Hanyang
District of Wuhan, Hubei province. The cooling tower was
completely destroyed in the accident. No injury has been
released.

Explosion in Xinda Rubber Co., Ltd.
　　On September 5th, 2006, a gas tank in Xinda Rubber Company
Ltd. exploded in Yutian county of Tangshan, Hebei province. Two
workers injured in the accident and one of them got badly burnt.
The cause hasn’t been proved yet.
