Vitamin A Project of Roche Taishan (Shanghai)
            Vitamin Products Co Ltd Completed
The second phase of  Vitamin  A  project  funded  by  Roche
Taishan (Shanghai) Vitamin Products Co.,   Ltd.   with  an
investment of 30 million U.S. dollars  has  recently  been
completed.
The company is a joint venture between Roche of Switzerland
, the world's biggest vitamin producer and  supplier,   and
Shanghai No. 6  Pharmaceutical  Factory.   Major  products
include food-grade Vitamin A liquid, feed-grade Vitamin  A
dry powder and pre-mixed poultry and livestock feed.   The
products are mainly used in medicines, food, cosmetics and
feed additives. After the completion of the second  phase,
the capacity of Vitamin A liquid can reach  over  800  t/a
and the capacity of  Vitamin  A  dry  powder,   Vitamin  A
concentrate and pre-mixed poultry and livestock  feed  can
reach 1 000 t/a, 3 000 t/a and 10 000 t/a respectively.
  Since the first joint venture was founded in 1994,  Roche
has established 6 joint venture companies and  one  wholly
-owned company in China. It has put 3 vitamin producers  in
Shanghai Pudong and formed a vitamin products  zone  based
on Vitamin A, Vitamin E and Vitamin B6. The sales  revenue
in the zone reached 57 million U.S.   dollars  last  year.
Besides vitamins, Roche has also cooperated with China  in
sectors of medicine, diagnosis, perfume and  essence.   It
has made a total investment of nearly  200  million  U. S.
dollars in China and the total sales revenue in China  was
220 million U.S. dollars last year.
