              Caprolactam Capacity Expansion
                 in Nanjing Chemical Group
To better satisfy the demand in the domestic  market,   the
State Council  has  recently  approved  the  proposal  for
caprolactam  capacity  expansion  in   Nanjing   Chemical
Industrial Group Corporation in collaboration with DSM  of
Holland. The existing 50 000 t/a caprolactam unit uses the
patented  technology  from  DSM.     The   unit   started
construction in 1989 and was completed and put  on  stream
at the end of 1992. It has become a losing unit because of
small production scale  and  high  production  cost.   The
capacity will be expanded to 120 000 t/a this  time.   DSM
will hold 60% stakes and Nanjing Chemical Industrial Group
Corporation will hold 40% stakes.   The  duration  of  the
joint venture  is  30  years.   After  the  completion  of
expansion, the unit will have a capacity of  120  000  t/a
caprolactam and 180 000 t/a ammonium sulfate.
