LG Chemical Transfers Carbon Black Business
                   to Degussa of Germany

LG Chemical Ltd  announced  on  November  18th,   1998  the
  company  sold  its  carbon  black  busi- ness  with   the
production capacity 213 000 ton/a to Degussa AG of Germany
. In the siging ceremony in Seoul, the two companies agreed
on this deal for US$170 million.
LG Chemical move to sell one of its cash cow businesses  is
a part of  the  active  financial  restructuring  plan  to
become more focused and competitive in the  future  global
market.
Under the company strategy of ocusing on core  business  LG
Chemical had already sold many of its non-core  businesses
and formed joint ventures with world leading companies  to
concentrate  on  advanced  technology  chemicals  such  as
polycarbonate and photoresist.
