       Biggest Musk-T Unit Completed and Put on Stream
The 30 t/a musk-T unit, the big-gest in  China,   has  been
completed and put on stream in the pilot  base  of  Fushun
Research Institute of Petrochemical  Industry.   The  unit
includes polymerization, depolymerization and rectification.
It has completed wet commissioning and produced the  first
lot of musk-T qualified in  all  technical  indexes.   The
  start  of  the  production  of  the  unit  indicates  the
completion of the first phase  bioengineering  project  in
the pilot base. Fushun Research Institute started research
and development of the technology for trideca binary  acid
production by biological fermentation of paraffins and the
technology for musk-T chemical synthesis in the mid-80. It
constructed a 10 t/a trideca binary  acid  pilot  unit  in
1989 to provide raw  materials  for  the  development  and
application of musk-T. The research achievement of  binary
acid  production  by  biological  fermentation  of  normal
  paraffins  passed  the  technical  appraisal   of   China
Petrochemical Corporation in 1992. To meet the  demand  of
binary acid and its products with high added value in both
domestic and foreign markets, the institute constructed  a
biological engineering project in  the  pilot  base.   The
first phase of the project included a 100 t/a binary  acid
unit and a 30 t/a musk-T unit. The  100  t/a  binary  acid
unit was completed and put into operation  in  June  1998.
  Qualified  binary  acid  was  produced  to  lay  a  solid
foundation for the smooth construction of the  30  musk- T
unit. After the completion of the second phase  biological
engineering project, the pilot base will have  a  capacity
of 400 t/a binary acid, 100 t/a musk- T  and  300  t/a  PA
thermosol.
