Cumin Unit Starts Production in Yanshan
                Petrochemical Corporation
The 85 000 t/a cumin unit recently constructed in       No.
2 Chemical Plant of Yanshan Petrochemical Corporation  has
completed wet commissioning and produced qualified product
.   The  unit  is  now  connected  with  the  80  000   t/a
phenol/acetone unit and is making a steady running.
The unit uses the process of zeolite catalytic  synthesis.
The catalyst is developed jointly by  the  plant  and  the
Chemical Research Institute of Beijing Garment University.
The unit can use a wide range of raw materials,   and  the
catalyst has a stable property and good selectivity.   The
reaction conditions are moderate, and the  operations  are
simple. There is no generation of sewage and no  corrosion
to equipment. The new process has already applied for  the
patent in China and acquired the patent in Italy.
