Wanhua Chemical released on its website the environmental impact assessment (EIA) report for its MDI/HDI integrated technological upgrading and expansion project and the 1 800 kt/a MDI technological upgrading project. 

1. Project name: Wanhua Chemical (Ningbo) MDI/HDI technological upgrading and expansion project and 1 800 kt/a MDI technological upgrading project

2. Project location: Existing production sites at No 39 North Huandao Road Ningbo Daxie Development Zone

3. Total investment: around yuan (RMB) 32.21bn for the MDI/HDI technological upgrading and expansion project; RMB940.5 million for the 1 800 kt/a MDI technological upgrading project. Investment for environmental protection is around RMB 250 million, accounting for 6% of the total. 

4. Construction details

Expand and reform the existing MDI unit: Phase I 400 kt/a MDI unit to be expanded to 600 kt/a and phase II 800 kt/a MDI unit to be expanded to 1 200 kt/a and the total MDI capacity to reach 1 800 kt/a 

To build a new 280 kt/a modified MDI unit and expand the modified MDI capacity to 300 kt/a

To build a new 50 kt/a HDI unit and a 60 kt/a adduct plant; to have a total 100 kt/a HDI monomer capacity 

To build a new 120 kt/a and a 240 kt/a hydrochloride oxidation plant; to increase the hydrochloride oxidation capacity to 580 kt/a

To build a new 240 kt/a formaldehyde unit

To reform the gas production unit, to raise the cold box capacity to 18 000Nm3/h from 12 000Nm3/h

To build a new incinerator to upgrade the capacity of the existing sewage treatment station; to build a central control room, equipment department comprehensive building, fire water station, substation and other supporting public facilities.
