On March 21, Maoming alkane comprehensive utilization project was put into construction in Guangdong Maoming Binhai New District. The project has a total investment of RMB40 billion.
Maoming alkane comprehensive utilization project is jointly built up by Oriental Energy and Guangdong Jinhui New Materials Share Investment Centre and will be constructed in three phases. The project will use imported alkane to produce polypropylene (PP) and hydrogen, set up the world scale PP production base and extend into such industrial chains as carbon fiber, 3D printers and hydrogen energy etc. It is designed to have 4 500 kt/a propylene capacities, 3 500-4 000 kt/a PP capacities and 200 kt/a hydrogen capacities.
The first phase project will have a total investment of around RMB16.6 billion and include two 1 000 kt/a propylene dehydrogenation units, four 500 kt/a PP units and two wharfs of 50 000 GT, as well as auxiliary warehouse zones and public facilities. The three downstream industrial chains cover PP, propylene oxide (PO)-polyether-polyurethane (PU), and phenol/acetone-bisphenol A (BPA)-polycarbonate industrial chains. Byproducts will include 100 kt/a hydrogen to realise the utilization of hydrogen energy in three routes, namely fuel cell, distributed hydrogen energy and outbound hydrogen energy. The project is expected to be completed and put into operation in March 2022.
The second phase project will have a total investment of RMB15 billion and include two 1 000 kt/a PDH units, three PP units and warehouse zones (phase II). The three downstream industrial chains consist of acrylonitrile (ACN), acrylic acid and PP. Byproducts will also include 100 kt/a hydrogen to realise the utilization of hydrogen energy.
The third phase project will build up a 1 000 kt/a low carbon hydrocarbon cracking to ethylene unit and supporting 400 kt/a ternary copolymerization unit. Ethylene will be fed into the ternary copolymerization and downstream units. The three downstream industrial chains will cover EO/EG, vinyl acetate and α-olefin.
