Shaanxi Yulin Chemical to Build 1.8 Million t/a MEG Project

On July 24, Shaanxi Yuliin Chemical held a ground-breaking ceremony for its coal-based new chemical materials demonstration project, the phase I 1.8 million t/a monoethylene glycol (MEG) project at Qingshui Industrial Park in Yulin city.

The project is planned and constructed by Shaanxi Coal and Chemical Industry Group according to the new industry organization mode. It consists of 27 plants and supporting public works, mainly 15-million-ton pyrolysis of coal at medium and low temperatures, 5.6-million-ton methanol plant, 1.8-million-ton MEG plant, 2-million-ton polyester plant, 2-million-ton polyolefin plant and downstream products. Over 20 million tons of coals are expected to be converted annually. The project has an estimated total investment of over RMB120 billion and will be built in four phases. The phase I 1.8-million-ton MEG plant will cost RMB70 billion and plans to achieve on-spec products in June 2021. The whole project is expected to be completed and put into operation in 2025.
